Good morning, good folks. If you’re reading this, then welcome to West Coast Bias Sports, the newest email newsletter covering the Pacific 12 Conference.

It’s been a less-than-stellar summer for the folks in San Francisco, with the coronavirus running rampant from sea to shining sea and a player-led insurrection brewing across the conference.

We’re 54 days from the conference’s updated opening day, of Sept. 26, and still have no clue whether there will be college sports, or if the players will take the field when they do.

This year’s opening games will feature in-state rivalries, such as the annual Territorial Cup contest between Arizona and Arizona State, to go with UCLA-USC.

The conference will also add a bye week or all 12 of its teams, allowing for postponements and other unforeseen changes down the road.

Whether any of this will matter in a country that’s seen more than 4.7 million COVID-19 cases and 157,000 deaths is yet to be seen.

What we can say is that the players will not go gently into that good night, using their collective voices to argue for substantive change in collegiate athletics.
